M. Louise (Whalen) Barrett, 82, of Franklin, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at her home. She was the wife of the late John J. Barrett.
Born in Prince Edward Island, Canada on June 30, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Margaret (Power) Whalen. Mrs. Barrett was a resident of Franklin for over 26 years and formerly resided in East Walpole.
She grew up, was educated and was a teacher in Prince Edward Island until immigrating to the United States in 1958. In her mid 50’s, she went back to school and received her Associates Degree from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Framingham State.
Before her retirement, she worked and held the professional titles of pension plan administrator and bank trust officer. After her retirement, she volunteered for the Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice and was an aid at the Montessori School.
Mrs. Barrett was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin where she was active in the Bible Study group and was also a Eucharistic Minister. She was an avid gardener and reader and was always up on current events. She was active at the Franklin Senior Center and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by twos son, Leonard J. Barrett of Hyannis and Vincent G. Barrett of Phoenix, AZ and four daughters, Margaret M. Walsh of Phoenix, Helen G. Barrett of Bourne and Carole A. Dixon and Marie D. Wiseman, both of Casa Grande, AZ.
She is also survived by a brother, James Whalen and two sisters, Cecelia Fitzpatrick and Edna MacLean, all of P.E.I., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was mother of the late Charles E. and George A. Barrett and Edna Siipola and sister of the late Francis, Vincent and Arnold Whalen and Mary McQuaid.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial Mass on Monday, May 14 at St. Mary’s Church, Church Square in Franklin at 9:00 a.m.
