Mrs. Gertrude (Foster) Malonis, 74, of Therriault St. passed away Saturday May 5 at D’Youville Manor after a brief illness with her family by her side.
She was born September 15, 1932 in Lowell, Massachusetts the daughter of the late William and Jenny(Glass) Foster. Wife of forty-three years to the late George C. Malonis who passed on November 11, 2006.
Mrs. Malonis was a graduate of Chelmsford High School, class of 1950. She went on to serve her country in the Marines during the Korean Conflict from 1952 – 1953. She was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother all her life while also working along side her husband George at the luncheonette counter at the Market Basket on Bridge St. in Lowell.
Mrs. Malonis was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pulpit Rock Lodge #103 of Pelham,N.H., a member of the American Legion Post #100.
She enjoyed singing in local church choirs and crafts.
Mrs. Malonis is survived by two daughters, Melinda Jopson and her husband David of York, Maine, Elizabeth Castle of Lancaster, Ma.; a son, Charles C. Malonis and his wife Debbie of Arizona; one sister, Gail Grant of Lowell; two sisters in law, Bessie Harrington of Palmer, Ma., and Helen Spaneas of Lynn, Ma.; two brothers in law, Ray Severied of California and Christos Malonis and his wife Mary of Seabrook, NH; six grandchildren, Sara C. Castle of Georgia, Bryan W. Castle Jr. of Lowell, Kristine Pratt and her husband Ryan of Lowell, Holly J. Gauthier of Revere, Specialist David R. Miller of Illeshiem, Germany, David Jopson Jr. of No. Andover, and Leamber Malonis of Oregon, also seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister to the late Marion Barry and Virginia Severied.
Friends and relatives will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St Lowell on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. Her funeral will take place on Thursday from the Funeral Home at 9a.m. to be followed by services at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell at 10a.m. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery.
