WORCESTER___Shirley A. (Mulrain) Borowy, 81, of Worcester, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday May 8 in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
She leaves her husband of 51 years, Henry J. Borowy, two sons, Joseph A. Borowy, Sr, and his wife Mary of Auburn and Peter J. Borowy and his wife Kim of Brooklyn, Ct., two daughters, Mary Chaparro of Worcester and Elizabeth Eisnor and her husband, David of Worcester; two brothers, Richard T. Mulrain of Gansevoort, N.Y., and John P. “Jack” Mulrain of Ft. Walton Beach, Fl., eight grandchildren Jaime, Jeremy, Joseph, Paul, Joshua, Rosemary, Caitlin and Rose, six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Jeffrey, Damian, Hailey and Anthony and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers, Mabel LaFleur, Rosella Callahan, Thomas Mulrain, George F. Mulrain, Jr, and Paul J. Mulrain. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of George F. Mulrain, Sr., and Mabel C. (Johnson) Mulrain and has lived here all her life.
Mrs. Borowy was a baker many years for the City of Worcester School Department at South High School and Providence Street Junior High School. She retired in 1984. Many years ago she worked for Crompton & Knowles Co. Shirley was also a poll worker for the City of Worcester during elections.
She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and its Women’s Guild. Shirley loved to crochet, play bingo and do crossword puzzles. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the UMASS Memorial Hospice team for the care they gave to Shirley.
The funeral will be held on Saturday May 12 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday May 11 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
