Billy Stephens, 62, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, May 7, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, May 10, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9, Wednesday evening, at the funeral home.
Mr. Stephens was born August 3, 1944, in Berrien County to Maudell Fender Gunn and the late Otis Stephens. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1967 from Alapaha and was raised by his mother and stepfather, J.W. Gunn. Mr. Stephens was a machine operator for Floyd Brothers Timber Company in Cordele and was a former employee of Southern Veneer in Fitzgerald. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Stephens of Fitzgerald; mother, Maudell F. Gunn of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Lamar & Sherry Stephens of Fitzgerald; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara Shipes and Mary & Bobby Ross, all of Fitzgerald; brother & sister-in-law, James & Betty Gunn of Sparks; grandchildren, Jacy Hansford, Marcus Stephens, Brittany Stephens, Whittany Stephens and Miranda Stephens; great grandson, Destin White. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, J.W. Gunn and a sister, Carolyn Jacobs.
