Westport - Mary Rita (Hayes) Rodgers, 89, of Westport Harbor and Tiverton, RI, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at home.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Daniel and Parmelia (Forest) Hayes, she grew up in Fall River, moved to Tiverton and has spent the last 30 years in Westport. Mrs. Rodgers was a 1935 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. An avid reader, she enjoyed knitting and playing bridge and golf. She was a former member of the Acoaxet Club, Westport and New Bedford Country Club.
Survivors include a son: Thomas A. Rodgers III of Tiverton; 3 daughters: Geraldine Roos of Palm Beach Shores, FL, Maureen Bateman of La Jolla, CA and Christine Fennelly of Westport; a sister: Mildred Hall of Fall River; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Margaret O’Connor and the late Daniel Hayes, Jr. and the former wife of the late Thomas A. Rodgers, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, May 10, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be from 8:30 - 9:30 A.M. prior to the Mass at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
