Ned Mercier, 88, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, May 6, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Tuesday, May 8, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. James Faircloth officiating. Brook Mercier will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday evening at the funeral home.
One of ten siblings, Mr. Mercier was born December 24, 1918, in Ila, Georgia, to the late George Livingston and Eula Black Mercier. He lived in the Fitzgerald community most of his life, retiring after more than 40 years as a glasscutter with Hardin’s Trim Shop. Mr. Mercier served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and the Baraca Sunday School Class.
Mr. Mercier is survived by his wife, LaJean Mercier of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Greg & Betty Mercier of Fitzgerald; grandsons, Brook and his wife, Elizma Mercier of Gainesville, FL and 1st Lt. Brad Mercier, U.S. Army, stationed in Vicenza, Italy; sisters, Nancy Jones of Charlotte, NC and Helen Mullis of Covington; brother, Ralph Mercier of Covington. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
