Obituary

Callahan – Rita Duggan, of Roslindale, formerly of Jamaica Plain died Friday May 4, 2007, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital after a lengthy illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by her entire family who had kept a vigil at her bedside.

She graduated from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Nursing School and spent more than 50 years at the Hospital as a staff and administrative nurse. After her retirement she remained active in the Nursing School Alumni Association. She loved spending time with family and friends and will be remembered by all that knew her as a person that gave selflessly of herself and expected nothing in return.

Wife of the late Joseph Hyde Callahan, she leaves her daughter Margery Grady of West Roxbury, Maryellen Mitchell Loiacono, and her husband Paul of Medfield, Dr. Maureen Dewey, and her husband Michael of West Roxbury, Joanne Callahan Tripp and her husband Kevin of Walpole. She also leaves her sons Michael Callahan and his wife Nancy of West Roxbury, Col. Joseph Callahan, Jr. USMC and his wife Susan of Roslindale, James Callahan and his wife Trang of Dedham, John Callahan and his wife Brenda of Needham, Richard Callahan and his wife Michelle of Jamaica Plain, and Henry Staines and his wife Tracey of West Roxbury, as well as her sister Marion Casey of Milton. She also leaves many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY on Wednesday May 9, at 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Holy Name Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 6-9 PM and Tuesday 3-8 PM.
