Obituary

Banks B. Rogers, 88, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, May 1 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, May 4, at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald, with Rev. Steve Waldorf and Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9, Thursday evening, at the funeral home.

Mr. Rogers was born January 13, 1919, in Harnett County, North Carolina, to the late George W. and Novella Saunders Rogers. His family moved to Live Oak, Florida in 1936. Mr. Rogers was a respected agri-businessman in Florida and Georgia. He traveled throughout the Southeastern United States building warehouses for the tobacco industry prior to settling in Fitzgerald in 1956. He was former owner/operator of Gold Leaf Warehouse and Gold Leaf Trucking Company. Mr. Rogers was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Sarah Sloan Rogers, Fitzgerald, GA; children and their spouses, Lavonne & Bill Pickens, Greensboro, NC, Lynda & Jim Knight, Gainesville, FL, Richard & Becky Rogers, Fitzgerald, GA and Ramona & Ken Howard, Newborn, GA; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Rogers; sister, Hazel Collins and granddaughter, Laura Knight.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 428, Fitzgerald, GA. 31750.
