William G. Lovette, II, 85, of Dartmouth died Wednesday November 13, 2002 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Louise M. (Tolentino) Lovette, and son of the late William G. and Georgianna (Wilson) Lovette.
Born and raised in Boston, he lived in various parts of the United States while in the service, returning to the New Bedford area in 1965.
Mr. Lovette was a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army for 25 years until his retirement in 1965. After his retirement he was employed at Rodney Metals in New Bedford.
He was a member of the Cape Verdean American Retirees Group. As a youngster he led many military parades in Boston.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Almeida and her husband Victor, of New Bedford; a son, William G. Lovette, III, of Richmond, CA; a sister, Patricia Hicks of Mashpee; 3 granddaughters, Michelle L. Almeida of Greenfield, Jennifer A. Tavares of New Bedford, and Deana J. Tavares of South Dartmouth; a great-grandson, Devin M. Tavares of New Bedford; 3 sisters-in-law, Corinne A. Monteiro of South Dartmouth, Alice M. Tolentino of Fairhaven, and Ida L. Tolentino of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.He was the grandfather of the late Michael J. Almeida, and brother of the late Dorothea Benders, Priscilla Singleton, Evelyn Clayton, and Edward Morrison.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service, conducted by his nephew Rev. Francisco A. Tolentino, in the Evangelical Pentecostal Church, 129 Hathaway Blvd., New Bedford, Saturday November 16, 2002 at 9 AM. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday November 15, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
