Renate H. Smith, 74, of Chester, NH, died Monday, April 30, 2007 in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. Mrs. Smith was born in Danzig-Langfuhr, Germany on March 30, 1933, a daughter of the late Hermann E. and Anna L. (Geborene Jeschke) Schimkat. She was a resident of Chester for the past two years, formerly living in Derry and Northern New Jersey. Mrs. Smith had been employed for Hunterdon Hills Playhouse in Perryville, NJ for over 28 years. She had been a member of the Grange in Clinton, NJ, and also enjoyed crocheting and cooking.
Mrs. Smith is survived by three daughters; Lynda McMaster of Bellmawr, NJ, Janet Smith of Chester, and Claudine Smith of New York City, NY; two sons, Edmund Smith of Windsor, CT, and John Smith of N. Hampton, PA; twelve grandchildren; one great grandson; and one niece. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth D. Smith, USN/RET who died in 1973.
Calling hours were on Friday, May 4th from 5 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 10:00am in the funeral home. Burial followed in Great Hill Cemetery in Chester.
