Obituary

Nicholas M. Souza, 15, of Medway died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 28, 2007 during a lacrosse practice at Medway High School. He was the son of Michael T. Souza of Medway and the late MaryJune (Nylander) Souza who died in 2005.
Born in Boston on May 4, 1991, Nicholas was a resident of Medway for most of his life. A sophomore and avid athlete at Medway High School, he was on the lacrosse team and football team and growing up played on the Medway youth hockey, soccer, football and lacrosse teams.
Nicholas also enjoyed snowboarding but what he loved most of all was socializing and spending time with his family and many friends.
Besides his father, he is survived by his sister, April Souza of Medway, his maternal grandmother, MaryJune Nylander of Medway, his paternal grandmother, Nancy Cabral and her husband, Daniel of Raynham and his paternal grandfather, Ronald Souza and his wife, Irene of Westfield, Vermont.
He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was a grandson of the late Gary Nylander who died in 2006.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Service of Christian Burial on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph’s Parish Center, 145 Holliston St. in Medway. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 - 8 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 14 School St. in Medway.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Nicholas’ memory may be made to Medway High School Athletics, 88 Summer St., Medway, MA 02053.

This Sunday, May 6th @ 8:30 PM, the friends of the Souza family are asking every Medway resident to light a candle in their front yard. This is not just in honor of our friend, Nick, but to show our love and support to Mike & April Souza in their time of sorrow.
Nick's death has affected each and every one of us in some way. With the lighting of the candles, we hope to come together as one and express our love and support to the Souza and Nylander family.


A luminary lighting will take place at the Medway High School/Hanlon Field at the same time - all students are invited to help set up and take part. Set up will begin at 7 PM and the lighting will follow at 8:30 PM.
