Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Edith Clough Howland, age 91 years, of the Atria Assisted Living and formerly of Dana Court in Fairhaven, died Saturday April 28, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Henry F. Howland.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late William and Minnie (Noble) Clough and a graduate of N.B. Vocational School. For 40 years, she lived on the Howland family farm in Fairhaven. Mrs. Howland was employed as a teller at the First National Bank Sawyer Street Branch, and then at Lauren Standard Grocery.

A member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Episcopal Church Women, she had also been a member of the Farmer's Association, loved to knit and sew and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Hazel Boucher of Tennessee and Carolyn McEwen of Winterhaven, Fla., her grandchildren, Rebecca, Grace, Sarah, Andrew, Hazel and Rachel and 14 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Hazel Crook of New Bedford.

Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, with visitation on Tuesday from 4-7 P.M. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven, Ma. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in her name to Alzheimer's Assoc., 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
