Joseph W. Shulsk, Sr., 79, of Mansfield died on Sunday April 29, 2007 at home surrounded by the care of his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Winifred O. (Marshall) Shulsk to whom he was wed to on September 18, 1948 and who died on Januray 14, 2005.
Born in Astoria, New York on July 9, 1927 he was a dear son of the late Joseph and Mary (Shapolas) Shulsk.
He grew up in Queens, New York and was educated in New York schools. He was a graduate of St. Josephs High School in Queens where he played baseball and basketball and was captain of his basketball team.
At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard serving during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1948 with rank of E-3. Shortly after being discharged he married his beloved wife Winifred. He then started college and was a graduate of Burdett College where he received his associate degree. He then went onto Suffolk University where he received his bachelor degree in accounting.
Mr. Shulsk was formerly employed as an accountant on the Mystic River Bridge for several years. In 1954 Mr. Shulsk along with his partner opened the J & J Wallpaper and Paint Co. on Washington St. in Roslindale. In 1968 he opened his own business, Wallpaper City also in Roslindale which is still family operated today. In 1976 he opened a second Wallpaper City in Mansfield which he and his family ran till the stores closing in 2006.
He was a member of the DAV. Joe had a special fondness for animals and was a member of the MSPCA and also supported many organizations pertaining to animals including the Mansfield Animal Shelter. He enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, Las Vegas and especially getting together with his Sunday Raynham brunch group. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Joe had lived in Mansfield for the past 19 years and was formerly of Sharon for 13 years and also Roslindale for many years.
He is survived by his devoted children; Joseph W. Shulsk, Jr. of Mansfield, William G. Shulsk of Attleboro, Louise W. Flynne and her husband Russell, Sr. of Westwood and Winifred M. Bell and her husband Michael. His cherished grandchildren; Russell Flynne, Jr., Wiliam Davis, Jenna Shulsk, Richard Flynne, Stephen Flynne and Christopher Bell. Also survived by his dear great grandchildren; Katelyn Flynne and Sean Flynne as well as his close friend Suki.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday May 3rd at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St.





Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday May 2nd from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Joe’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to either the Old Colony Hospice 1 Credit Union Way Randolph, MA 02368 or to Memorial Donations for the New Mansfield Animal Shelter P.O. Box 25 Mansfield, MA 02048.
