Bertha (Allison) Normile Rego, 96, formerly of New Bedford died Saturday April 28, 2007 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles M. Normile, and later married John M. Rego of Valentine Street, New Bedford.
Born in Chorley, Lancashire, England, the daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Lena (Riding) Allison, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and assisted at the Thrift Shop.
Mrs. Rego was formerly employed by Berkshire-Hathaway for 47 years.
Survivors include her husband, John M. Rego; two children, Margaret S. Thomas and her husband Weldon of Fort Worth, and Charles M. Normile, Jr. and his wife Janie of Poughkeepsie, NY, five stepchildren, Herb Rego of New Bedford, Robert Rego and his wife Rena of Quincy, Norma Bridge of Norton, Lily Hall of Acushnet, and Gail Pereira and her husband Dennis of Stonington, CT; four grandchildren, Kathryn, Charles, Patricia, and Melissa, five great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Evan, Jordan, Casey, and Sarah, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kerry A. Thomas, a stepson, John Rego, and four sisters, Ethel Wood and her husband, Frederick, Annie Hicks and her husband, John, Clarice Hall and her husband, Fred, Jennie Morgan and her husband, Joseph, and a brother, Walter Allison, and his wife, Maddie.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at the Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Home, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
