Hampton, NH: Suzanne J. (Langdon) Rood age 68 of Hampton, NH, died at home on Friday, April 27, 2007, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous four year battle with lymphoma. She was a well loved educator who loved teaching and left her mark on hundreds of young people, as well as her teaching colleagues. They returned to pay their respects in a steady procession over the years, a testament as to how effective she was in the classroom and how loved she was by many of them.
She was the wife of Churchill G. ‘Skip’ Rood with whom she shared 45 years of marriage. Born in Wyandotte, Michigan on February 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William and Leona Langdon.
Sue loved quilting, reading and spending time with her family and friends at their log cabin on the Maine coast. She was truly a lovely, giving and caring wife, mother and friend. She spent a number of years as a Hospice volunteer and served on numerous other charitable and service boards and committees. Sue was known as someone who always put others before herself. Her sparkling sense of humor kept those around her laughing up to her final moments. She was rich beyond words in countless friendships and will be missed by so many.
In addition to her husband Skip, she is survived by 2 daughters: Amy K. Rood and her life-partner Peter J. Mittendorf of Rutland, VT, Jennifer A. Olson and her husband Kenneth P. of Hyde Park, VT, a grand-daughter Emma Olson of Hyde Park, a brother Kenneth Langdon of Michigan and Florida. Sue is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Matthew W. Rood who died on November 19, 2005.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, MA. Her memorial service will be on Wednesday, May 2nd at 11 am in the First Parish Church Congregational, Central St., Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Lanpher Memorial Library, Hyde Park, VT 05655 or your local Hospice.
