TEWKSBURY - Peter A. McRae, L.P.N., age 61, a Nurse at Tewksbury Hospital, died
unexpectedly at his home on Saturday morning, April 28, from an apparent heart attack. He was
the husband of Louise M. (Flaherty) McRae, with whom he would have celebrated a 35th
wedding anniversary on June 17th.
He was born in Boston, on June 26, 1945, the son of the late Basil and Margaret (Sullivan)
McRae. He moved to Tewksbury at the age of five, and went on to graduate from Tewksbury
Memorial High School with the Class of 1963. He remained a Tewksbury resident throughout his
life.
His work career began in computer manufacturing, as a manager for over 25 years in accounting,
expediting and inventory control. He worked for R.C.A., Wang and Inforex before changing his
career path in 1993 when he graduated from Tewksbury Hospital’s School of Nursing. In 1993,
he earned his L.P.N. and had since remained at Tewksbury hospital as a nurse.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.
He was described by his family as a hobbyist in fishing, coin collection, yard work, and swimming
pool maintenance. He also enjoyed football, but his favorite past time was time with his family
and friends, and time with his only granddaughter, Emily, who “lit up his life.”
Besides his wife and granddaughter, he is survived by a son, Peter M. McRae of Tewksbury; a
daughter Lisa M. McRae of Lowell; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Karen Hurst of
Jacksonville, FL, Joan Hankard and her husband Robert of Mendon, MA, Sheila Bussing of
Groveland, MA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William Flaherty and Marie Flaherty both of
Woburn; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, May 2, in St. William’s Church. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
