GLOUCESTER: Frances R. Silva, 94, of 31 Prospect Street, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
Born in Gloucester on July 17, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary E. (O’Brien) Silva. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School.
Frances was employed as a seamstress at the former D. O. Frost and Mighty Mac for many years before retiring at the age of 76.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Barbara (Lane) Silva of Magnolia, a daughter, Barbara Ann Sawler of Gloucester, five grandchildren, Mark, Cheryl and Pamela Silva, Kathleen Vitagliano and Sandra Sawler, five great-grandchildren, Robert Douglas Silva, Mark Silva, Katie Silva, Sara Vitagliano and Marisa Pistenma and four brothers, Lawrence Silva, John R. Silva, Ralph Elliott Silva and Richard Allen Silva. She was also predeceased by seven sisters, Elinor Banister, Alice Hagstrom, Anna Mattson, Hilda Crowley, Catherine McCormack, Mary Stuart and Florence Langley, a brother, William Silva and a step-sister, Rita Pauline Silva.
In keeping with her wishes, services will be privately held in the Beechbrook Cemetery, W. Gloucester. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
