Obituary

Margaret Bridges Middlebrooks, 89, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Shiloh Personal Care Home in Ocilla.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 28 in the Evergreen Cemetery, with Rev. Kelly Brown and Rev. Tom Braziel officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Middlebrooks was born November 2, 1917, in Douglas to the late George H. and Gincy Bland Bridges. She was a 1934 graduate of Douglas High School and a graduate of South Georgia College. She married Clarence Howard Middlebrooks, of Fitzgerald, on October 20, 1946, at the First Baptist Church in Douglas. Margaret and Clarence lived all their married life in Fitzgerald. Mrs. Middlebrooks retired after 26 years as Accountant for Dorminy Oldsmobile & Cadillac in Fitzgerald and was former Assistant City Clerk for the city of Douglas. After her retirement she worked as a Caseworker for the Ben Hill County Department of Family and Children Services. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, the Rebekah Sunday School Class and was a former Intermediate Sunday School Class Teacher.

She is survived by her caregivers, Gary & Sue Smith of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and a nephew, including Juawan Mead Park of Douglas, Carolyn Mead Morrison of Alpharetta, Faith Scarborough Hendley of Nashville, Tim Scarborough of Merritt Island, Florida. Also there are 5 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Howard Middlebrooks, two sisters, Jeanette Mead and Lola Mae Scarborough and two brothers Homer Erastus Bridges and Edward Bernice Bridges.
