Obituary

Erving Mason, a resident of Revere, and formerly of Chelsea entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2007 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. He was 88 years old.

Born in Chelsea, the son of the late Samuel and Dora (Glazer) Mason, Erving was raised and educated in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1936. He attended Boston University prior to enlisting in the United States Army on April 15, 1941. Erving served with the China Combat Command Unit as an expert rifleman and weapons instructor throughout India, Burma, and the South Pacific. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and a Bronze Star. He was discharged on November 9, 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Upon his return from military service, Erving began a distinguished and well respected career with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Charles Draper – Lincoln Laboratory in Cambridge. He worked in the electronics field until his retirement from M.I.T. in 1989 after 40 years of outstanding and dedicated service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Temple Emmanuel of Chelsea, Congregation 420 of the Jack Satter House in Revere, Jewish War Veterans, the Century Club of M.I.T.
Erving will always be remembered for his kindness to all people. Whether he knew a person or the individual was a complete stranger, Erving would always help them in any way he could. His gentle nature and always being a mensch will be long remembered and forever cherished by his beloved family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Natalie (Ziedman) Mason of Revere; his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Stephen Sudikoff of Sharon; his granddaughter, Deanna Sudikoff of Sharon; and his grandson, Scott Sudikoff of Sharon. He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Sheryl B. Mason and his brother, Dr. Carl Mason.

Funeral services will be held in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Avenue (Cary Sq) CHELSEA on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 12:00 Noon. Rabbi Nochum Cywiak of Cong. Agudas Shalom and Cong. AAA Sfard will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mishna Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Stephen and Sandra Sudikoff, Sharon after the burial and continue through Tuesday evening.
