Obituary

Viola I. (Venezia) Catanzaro a 50 year resident of Medford and formerly of Melrose and Charlestown, died on Monday April 23, 2007 at Bearhill Nursing Center in Stoneham following a brief illness. She was 90 years old.

Viola was born in Boston on December 11, 1916. She grew up in Charlestown and attended Boston Public Schools. She was a homemaker where she took much pleasure taking care of her husband and children. Her family moved to Medford many years ago, then lived in Melrose for about 10 years before moving back to Medford.

Viola was the beloved wife of 70 years to the late Joseph L. Catanzaro. She is the devoted mother of Joseph R. Catanzaro and his wife Joyce of Hudson, N.H., Gerald Catanzaro and his wife Cheryl of Winchester, Janice Lenzi and her husband Phillip of Melrose, Anna Marie Catanzaro of Medford, Alfred E. Catanzaro and his wife Lillian of Stoneham, Richard Catanzaro and his wife Patricia of Stoneham and the late Michael L. Catanzaro. She is the loving grandmother of 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Helen Barbetta and her husband Fred of Charlestown, Alfred Venezia of Florida, the late Ralph, Nathaniel, Leonard and Ernest Venezia. She is the sister-in-law of Lois Venezia of Wakefield.

Viola's Funeral will be held on Friday April 27, 2007 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church (corner of Myrtle & Herbert Streets) Melrose at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Viola will be held on Thursday April 26, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
