Genevieve Nelson Hammond, 95, died Sunday, at Mystic Manor.
She is survived by her husband George Hammond, a resident of Mystic, and daughters Mrs. Wendy Evarts,who is ill in Boston, MA and Mrs. Craigie Bell, resident of San Jose, Costa Rica, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hammond is a 1926 graduate of Packer Collegiate Institute, Brooklyn, NY and a 1928 graduate of Barnard in Columbia University. Mrs. Hammond studied in Remedial Reading and taught it for five years in the school system of Norwalk, CT.
In 1910 Mrs. Hammond and Mr. Hammond graduated from P.S. 92 Grammar School in Brooklyn at age 10. In 1927 Mr. Hammond was in Columbia. He thought he recognized Genevieve going into Barnard College across Broadway. They were married on October 19, 1933.
Mrs. Hammond was widely traveled and carried on a greatly admired inspiring correspondence.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic.
