Theresa Anne (Guzaj) Schneider, 63, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday April 21, 2007.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Constantin J. and Kathleen (Howard) Guzaj, she lived most of her life in New Bedford, Cape Cod, and Florida.
After graduating from high school, she attended Pondville Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1963. She worked at Union Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital and other medical facilities in the New Bedford area caring for others.
She lived in Centerville for 12 years while working at Cape Cod Hospital and raising her children. Moving to South Florida in 1985, she became involved with addiction treatment, crisis intervention, and detox nursing at various facilities in Broward and Palm Beach counties. She also volunteered at the migrant worker camps in Boynton Beach, Florida and at the Y.W.C.A. in New Bedford.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, her dogs Domino and Gigi, painting, boating and giving back to her community. She was very much loved by her family and friends and will be missed.
Survivors include her children, Dr. Deborah Schneider and Victor J. Schneider; three sisters, Patricia Ford, Bonnie English, and Christine Lawrence; two brothers, Joseph Guzaj and Mark Guzaj; her granddaughters, Sierra Nicole Elsbury and Savanna Morgan Elsbury; many nieces and nephews; and her companion Joseph Sawicki.
She was the sister of the late Frank Howard Guzaj.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, April 26th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 AM. Visiting hours Wednesday, April 25th from 4-8 PM.
