LEDYARD- Duncan Hugo Carson, age 86, of 337 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard died Monday on his birthday at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Sophie (Salvatore) Carson.
Mr. Carson was born on November 11, 1916 in New London, the son of Duncan S. and Jennie (Jonsson) Carson and grew up in Noank. He was a 1935 graduate of Robert E. Fitch High School. Mr. Carson was a driver for the Mobil Oil Company and later was owner/operator of Carson’s Oil Company. He was a member of the Stonington Lodge of Odd Fellows in Mystic for 54 years and was a Past Noble Grand. He was a lifetime member of the Noank Fire Department and a longtime member of the Old Mystic United Methodist Church. Throughout his life, Mr. Carson raised many kinds of poultry and had a love of gardening and was especially known for his beautiful daffodil display every spring.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Duncan J. Carson and his wife Linda of Kittery, ME, Robert M. Carson and his wife Patricia of Oakdale, CT, and his daughter Carol Barnes Craig and her husband William of Mystic, CT, as well as a sister Marie Ahern of Topsham, ME.He is predeceased by his half-brother, Charles Carson.
Mr. Carson is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Michele Rider, Cheryl Rivers, Brian Carson, Lisa Duca, Michael Brisson, David Brisson, Scott Barnes, and Michael Barnes and 10 great grandchildren.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00am at the Old Mystic United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Noank Valley Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Carson’s memory may be made to the Old Mystic United Methodist Church, P. O.
