Obituary for Lois “Jeannie” Carr
Lois “Jeannie” (Harbison) Carr died at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts, on Thursday evening, April 19, 2007. She was 71 years old.
Born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, on December 30, 1935, she was a beloved daughter of the late Alan L. and Leola F. (Hindman) Harbison. Ms. Carr was a graduate of Ambridge, High School, class of 1955, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. She attended classes for sewing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and also studied music at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown. She had a natural gift for music and sang for many years with the Matternette Gospel Quartet along with her sister, Judy and friends Alberta Campbell Poling and the late Marian Amsler Burke. The quartette went on to win county, state-wide and national championships with their beautiful singing. In her early day’s Lois played the piano for the Doris Singer Dance Studio in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. After relocating to Medford, she became the organist for the Wesley United Methodist Church, a position she held for more than 17 years. Ms. Carr loved all holiday’s, especially Halloween.
She will be sorely missed by her beloved sister, Judy H. and her husband Val Perry of Medford, adopted sisters; Beverly Schechter of Lawrence and Beth Soster of Fair Oaks, Pennsylvania, close and dear friend; Diane Oliver of Medford and many family and friends of Lawrence, Salisbury and Amesbury.
Her Funeral Service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Sunday, April 22, 2007, at 4 PM. Relatives and friends were most welcome to attend. Visiting hours were Sunday, prior to the service, from 2 to 4 PM. Interment was in Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Wexford, Pennsylvania.
