Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Dorothy (Rodman) Renfree, age 87 years, of Acushnet, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Howard C. Renfree.

Daughter of the late Herbert L. and Freda (Allen) Rodman, she was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Rhode Island School of Design where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree.

A lifelong area resident, she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and Long Plain United Methodist Church. An accomplished watercolor artist and sailing racer in her younger days at the NB Yacht Club, she was active with the Acushnet Arts Council and Board of Registrars, a 20 year volunteer with St. Luke's Hospital. Dorothy also taught Sunday School at Grace Church and was active with the church 20/30 Club and directed several Fairhaven Art Shows on the wharf.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Peter Rodman Renfree and his wife, Sharon of Arlington, Va., and Christopher Harding Renfree of Acushnet; her sister, Hilda (Rodman) (Lamarre) Mayhew of Fairhaven; two grandsons, Joshua Rodman Renfree of New York City and Adam Palmer Renfree of San Diego, California; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her funeral will take place on Monday, April 23, 2007, at 10 A.M. in Grace Church Chapel, County and School Sts., New Bedford, Ma. followed by burial in River-Side Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB on Sunday from 4-7 P.M.
