Charles M. Rutherford, Jr., 44, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday morning April 18, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 4 P.M., Friday, April 20, at Evergreen Cemetery, with Rev. Leroy Spivey, Rev. Dan Hayes and Rev. Matt Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Rutherford was born April 3, 1963 in Newport News, Virginia, to Sue Bishop Rutherford and the late Charles M. Rutherford, Sr. He lived in the community most of his life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School. Mr. Rutherford studied Auto Paint & Body work at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College and attended Okefenokee Technical School. He was a Conductor for CSX Railroad, where he was a member of the UTU. He was a former commercial fisherman and scuba diver and owner/operator of Southeastern Vinyl Siding. Mr. Rutherford was a member of the Fitzgerald Church Of God.
Mr. Rutherford is survived by his children, Heather Rutherford of Rentz, Amanda Warnock of East Dublin, Charles M. “Chaz” Rutherford, III and Tyler E. Rutherford, both of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Kaleigh Rutherford and Riley Warnock; mother, Sue Bishop Rutherford of Fitzgerald; special friend, Cindy Jeffery of Fitzgerald; sisters, Sandi Gibbs and Pam Nugent, both of Fitzgerald; brothers, Robert E. Rutherford of South Boston, VA and Chad Rutherford of Fitzgerald; stepbrother and step sister, Steve Gordon of Fitzgerald and Carolyn Craig of Hampton, VA.
