GLOUCESTER: Roger A. Feener, 81, of 13 Poplar Park died Thursday morning, April 12, 2007 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. He was the companion of Deborah Fineberg.
Born in Gloucester on March 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Sidney and Martha (Gray) Feener. He attended Gloucester public schools and was a proud recipient of the Sawyer Medal Award.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the USS Bates, which was one of the first destroyers to arrive in Normandy. He was also a member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion.
Mr. Feener was employed as an inspector for many years at the former Cape Ann Tool in Rockport until his retirement. He had also worked for Sylvania in Ipswich in the 1960’s.
Singing was one of his passions in life. He was known to have sung on the radio back in his early days and was great fan of Frank Sinatra.
In addition to his longtime companion, he is survived by eleven children, Lauran, wife of James Brayden of East Boston, Scott Feener, companion of Melanie Caron of Haverhill, Roger Feener of Fernandia Beach, FL, Linda Ball of Pagosa Springs, CO, Steve, husband of Paula Feener of Rome, NY, William Feener of Peabody, Paul, husband of Vicky Feener of Watkinsville, GA, Michael Feener of Gloucester, Elizabeth Tracy of Danvers, Steve, husband of Vivian Arnold of Pompano Beach, FL , Robert Arnold of Gloucester , a brother, Richard Feener of Rockport, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Glenn Feener, two sisters, Gladys Clifford and Eva Harrison and three brothers, Sidney, Everett and Stanley Feener.
His funeral services will be held on Friday morning in the Wesleyan Cemetery at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
