MaryRose R. Marquis, 74 of Derry, NH, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 in the Caritas Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, MA. Mrs. Marquis was born in Lynbrook, NY on March 9, 1933, a daughter of the late Donat J. and Lydia (Bouchard) Lavigne. She was a resident of Derry for 23 years, formerly living in Salem, NH. Mrs. Marquis graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, Lawrence, MA as class valedictorian. She married Joseph R. Marquis on April 24, 1954 at Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence. While raising her five boys she worked for the school system in Salem, NH, for Western Electric for seven years and then went to work as a Tax Examiner Supervisor for the IRS in Andover, MA for 26 years, retiring in 1997. She was a communicant of St. Matthews Church in Windham, NH. She volunteered her time to the Derry AARP helping seniors do their tax returns, was a member of the AARP and a member of H2U through Parkland Medical Center. She enjoyed taking trips to Foxwoods and also spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph R. Marquis of Derry, five sons, Arthur J. Marquis and his wife Donna of Salem, Edward P. Marquis and his wife Debora of E. Hampstead, NH, Richard A. Marquis and his longtime companion Barbara Herrin of Miami, FL, Gerald J. Marquis and his wife Sheila of Atkinson, NH, Daniel J. Marquis of Derry, nine grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, two brothers, Robert Lavigne of Lawrence, Donald Lavigne of Methuen, a sister, Yvette Elliott of Salem, and by nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held 4-8pm Monday, April 16, 2007 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday in St. Matthews Church, Two Searles Rd., Windham. The burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., NH Affiliate, PO Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.
