Obituary

John R. Ribeiro, Sr., 85, of New Bedford died November 9, 2002 at Blaire House of New Bedford after a long illness.

He was the husband of the late Mary S. (Silva) Ribeiro and son of the late Joaquim and Matilda (Robin) Ribeiro.

Mr. Ribeiro was born in Fairhaven and lived in New Bedford most of his life.

He was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene Church for over 50 years, where he served as a deacon and usher.

Mr. Ribeiro was formerly employed by the Laborer's Union in New Bedford for many years until his retirement.

He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was a former member of Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include 7 sons, John "Ribs" Ribeiro, Jr, Kenneth Ribeiro, Joaquim "Jack" Ribeiro and Gerald Ribeiro, all of New Bedford, Peter Ribeiro of Provincetown, Mark Ribeiro of Long Island and Bruce Ribeiro of Winston-Salem, NC; 2 daughters, Patricia Rose of New Bedford and Doreen Tellewoyan of Peoria, Ill; a sister, Evelyn Santos of New Bedford; 32 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Richard Ribeiro and Adelina Ribeiro and brother of the late Manuel Rebeiro, Sylvester "Sonny" Rebeiro and Zye Fonseca.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the International Church of the Nazarene Wednesday, November 13th at 11 AM.

Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordTuesday, November 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Interment Rural Cemetery.
