GLOUCESTER: Miss O. Madeleine Sampson, 87, of 10 Dale Avenue, died Wednesday April 11, 2007 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
Born in Gloucester on July 21, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Adeline (White) Sampson. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a member of the first graduating class of St. Ann’s High School in 1934.
Miss Sampson was employed as a secretary in the purchasing department at Gorton’s of Gloucester for many years until her retirement. She had also once worked as a secretary at the former CBS Hytron in Danvers for several years.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Dorothy Noble, Robert Pratt, Sally Jacobs, J. Dixon Sampson, Donald Sampson, David Joyce, Jeanne Habein, Sheila Mastroianni, Clifford Sampson, Edith Douglass, Alice Lester, Lawrence Sampson and Arthur Sampson. She also leaves many loving great-nieces and great-nephews as well as many dear close friends. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Joseph Sampson and four sisters, Alice Sampson, Ruth McGillivary, Edna Joyce and Dorothy Pratt.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church, Gloucester on Wednesday, April 18th, at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Sawyer Free Library “Children’s Dept.”, 2 Dale Ave., Gloucester or the St. Ann’s School, 70 Pleasant St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
