Eugen Heinrich Nelhuebel, 82, formerly of Medway died suddenly April 10 in Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was the husband of the late Inge A. (Bartel) Nelhuebel who died in 1996.
Born in Silesia, Germany, May 14, 1924, the son of the late Karl and Gertrude (Woehl) Nelhuebel, Mr. Nelhuebel was raised in Germany and came to America in the late 1950’s.
At a young age, he was enlisted into the German Military School and University. He went into battle as a WWII German Tank Commander in Russia.
Mr. Nelhuebel had lived in Medway for almost 40 years.
He was a machinist and plant manager for 30 years for Lentros Engineering in Ashland.
He enjoyed his retired life with his children and grandchildren, sharing his time in Massachusetts and Virginia.
He was a former member of the Boylston Schul-Verein, German Club in Walpole.
He is survived by his children, Norman Nelhuebel and his wife, Susan of Southboro, his daughter, Michele Schoellkopf and her husband, Eric of Milford and his son, Kevin Nelhuebel and his wife, Robin of Suffolk, Virginia.
He was the brother of the late Franz Nelhuebel.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Derrick Nelhuebel and his wife, Melinda of Falmouth, Derek Maximillian Nelhuebel and his fiancé, Suzanne of Southboro, Nicholas Eric Nelhuebel of Southboro, Rachel Inge Schoellkopf, Eric Eugene Schoellkopf and Karl Maximillian Schoellkopf, all of Milford and Kyle Maximillian Nelhuebel and Jana Rebecca Nelhuebel of Suffolk VA.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday April 17 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Village Street in Medway at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 5-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
