METHUEN – Robert “Bob” A. Dowd age 73 died Tuesday April 10, 2007 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in West Roxbury, MA, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and educated in Methuen he was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, stationed from the U.S. Naval Submarine Base, New London, Connecticut. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged from service. He was employed with Raytheon in Andover, and also General Tire Bolta Division where he was the president of the union.
He was a member of the American Legion in Methuen, the Lawrence Elks the Arlington Club in Lawrence. He was also worked as a bartender at Dowd’s Pub in Methuen and was well known for his frozen mudslides. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, softball, playing 45’s. He also received a resolution from former Senator William X. Wall congradulating Bob for his participation in the Old Gang Reunion.
He leaves his wife of 50 years Dotty M. (Gagne) Dowd of Methuen.
1 son Wayne R. Lacroix and his wife Joyce of Methuen.
3 daughters JaneAnne Calden of Methuen, Donna M. Dewhirst and her husband James of Atkinson, NH, and Debra J. Dzioba and her husband Bud of Salem, NH.
1 sister Theresa Elliott of Florida
1 brother Joseph Dowd and his wife Jeanette of Methuen.
1 grandson, 8 granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by 1 goddaughter Nancy Knowles and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the VA Boston Healthcare System, c/o Voluntary Service General Post Fund, 1400 VFW Parkway West Roxbury, MA or to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701-9376. Family and friends may call on Friday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00a.m. at St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
