John L. Horne of Merrimac, formerly of Needham died suddenly on Monday April 9 at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. He was 88 years old. Born in Boston, John attended Dorchester High School an he served in World War II in Navy, stationed in China with General Chenault and the “Flying Tigers”. Mr. Horne was the branch manager of Norfork County Trust Company Banks in Needham for many years. He retired after 37 years in banking business. John was a member of the Rotary Clubs of America, Bosox Club, SACO (Sino-American Cooperative Organization) Veterans, 14th Air Force Veterans, member of Needham Exchange Club and a Life member of the Amesbury VFW Post 2016. He was an avid Boston sports fan, long time Red Sox season ticket holder and enjoyed golf and traveling. Beloved husband of Joy (Tausig) Somes-Horne. Father of Michael Horne and his longtime companion Helen Lentell of Mashpee. Step-father of Robin Somes and Stephen Sledjeski of Merrimac , Jon Somes of Taos, NM, Alana Jones and Kate Sallaberry of CA. Grandfather of Leslie (Horne) Hatton and her husband Thomas of Bourne. Great grandfather of Aiden, Colin and Erin Hatton all of Bourne. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Saturday April 14 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew Church at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sat. morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to Mass. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery Needham.
