Obituary

Flaherty of Brockton, April 10, 2007, James R. Flaherty, 94 years. Husband for 55 years of the late Margaret E. (Collins) Flaherty. Loving father of Margaret M. Fosbre and her husband Thomas of Hyannis and Ann E. Flaherty of Norwood. Brother of Mary Lutz of FL and the late John, Roger, Leo and Joseph Flaherty and Margaret Millan.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday at 10am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish (St. Colman) at 11 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 pm. Donations in memory of James may be made to the Charity of One’s Choice.

Obituary

James R. Flaherty died at the Brockton Hospital after a two year illness of Parkinson’s and complications due to pneumonia. Husband of the late Margaret E. (Collins) Flaherty. He was born and raised in Norwood, a son of the late Patrick and Ellen (Greaney) Flaherty. He had been a resident of Brockton for the past 62 years and a graduate of Norwood High School Class of 1930. During WW II he served in the Army Air Corp as a Staff Sergeant and Aerial Engineer in the European African Theatre. He retired as a salesman and engineer from Supply New England formerly Reardon and Lynch Heating Supply in Attleboro after 45 years. Previously he worked at John Hancock and Fore River Shipyard. He was a member of Third degree Knight of Columbus Seville Council, Brockton and a life member of Whitman VFW Post, Campello Vets Fireman Assoc. Member of the Brockton Democratic City Committee as well as the State Democratic Committee. He took pride in being one Brockton’s oldest voters. He was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret Church where he was a collector. Member of the Holy Name Society and St. Vincent de Paul. Mr. Flaherty was a founding member of the John J. Burke Scholarship Fund. He traveled extensively with his wife and had a love of music especially Irish and opera.

He is survived by two daughters, Margaret M. Fosbre and her husband Thomas of Hyannis and Ann E. Flaherty of Norwood and a sister Mary Lutz of FL

He was husband of the late Margaret E. (Collins) Flaherty and brother of the late John, Roger, Leo and Joseph Flaherty and Margaret Millan.
