Wayne Covington, 50, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, April 10, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 4 P.M. Friday, April 13, at Crossview Baptist Church, with Rev. Barry Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Covington was born April 23, 1956, in Daytona, Florida, to Mazie Polk Hyder and the late Luther Covington. He lived in the community most of his life, working for Gilman Building Products for 27 years. Mr. Covington was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and attended Crossview Baptist Church. He was a member of the Ben Hill County Bass Club and loved hunting and bass fishing.
Mr. Covington is survived by his wife of 31 years, Teresa Lewis Covington of Fitzgerald; daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda & Justin Johnson of Wray and Ashley & Clint Tucker of Ocilla; granddaughter, Ansley Johnson; mother, Mazie Hyder of Fitzgerald; grandfather, Ernest Ryals of Cocoa, FL; stepmothers, Jo Merritt of Tifton and Nabila Covington of Fitzgerald; brothers, Allen Covington of Ocala, FL, Keith Covington of Indiana, Luther Covington, Jr., of Fitzgerald and Eddie Luscomb of Florida; sisters, Glenda Fay Patterson of Vermont, Glenda Mobley and Sharon Pope, both of Fitzgerald, Regina Sumner of Tifton, Joni Nichols of Calhoun and Amal Lamb of Lake Park; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by brother, Steve Johnston and grandmother, Elizabeth Ryals.
