LOWELL- William F. Brooks, Jr., 74 years old, died early Tuesday morning, April 10th, at the Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary R. (Doyle) Brooks, who died in October of 2001.
He was the born in Lowell, on October 4, 1932, a son of the late William F. and Helen (Hovey) Brooks, and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Lowell Trade School.
Mr. Brooks served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge, he worked for many years as a Maintenance Mechanic at various companies, including Joan Fabrics, Lowell; Cesyl Mills, Millbury; and U.S. Post Offices in North Reading and Woburn.
He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and held membership in the VFW, #662; and the American Legion, Post #87. He was an avid sports fan and played semi-professional football with the Lowell All-Stars; and enjoyed working with his hands woodworking or tinkering with machines.
Surviving him are two sons and daughters-in-law: William F. and Regina Brooks, III, of North Andover; Tim and Christine Brooks, of Dracut; five grandchildren: Jacob, Ryan, Hannah Grace, John and Katie; three sisters: Mary Botto, and Judy Feeley, both of Lowell; and Patricia Youngblood, of Louisiana; two brothers: George Brooks and Harold Brooks, both of Lowell; also many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Gertrude Brooks.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, April 12th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38), Lowell. His Funeral Mass to be offered on Friday, April 13th, at 9 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
