Obituary

Willis S. Low, 96, of Windham, NH died Monday, April 9, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry, NH after a period of failing health. He was born in Windham on December 23, 1910, the son of the late Frederic S. and Ethel (Bloomfield) Low, Sr. and resided in Windham all of his life. He was a graduate of Woodbury High School of Salem, NH in 1930 and attended the University of New Hampshire for one year, until he was called home to run the family farm because of his father’s illness. Mr. Low was later elected as the Town of Windham Police Chief and held that position for forty years prior to his retirement in 1972. He served the town in many other ways, including acting as the truant officer and as a school bus driver. Always one to keep busy, he had worked at the Arlington Mills in Lawrence, MA and later as a police officer at Rockingham Park in Salem. Following his retirement he worked cutting cordwood. Mr. Low was one of the founders of the Pelham Bank & Trust Company.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Joyce Cooney of North Hampton, MA; a sister Priscilla Pelletier of Sandown, NH; also by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Edith (Cole) Low on January 3, 1997.

Following cremation, a calling hour was held on Saturday, April 14th from 10 – 11 AM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry. A memorial ceremony was held at 11 AM in the funeral home. Urn burial followed in the Cemetery on the Plain, Windham, NH.
