FAIRHAVEN — Elmira "Mina" Gomes, age 78, formerly of Bay Village in New Bedford, died Sunday, April 8, 2007 at Nichols House in Fairhaven where she had lived for the past three years.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde Island, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Eugenia (Lobo) Gomes. For many years, she lived in Boston and returned to New Bedford. A communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church, she was active with church groups, and always concerned about her family and friends. She had worked for several years in local textile mills.
She is survived by her brother Armando J. Gomes and his wife Mariana of New Bedford and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at 8 A.M. from the Wilson Chapel 479 County st. at the corner of Elm St., N.B, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 P.M.
