Gene R. Frezza, 84, died Sunday evening at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford after a long illness.
Born in Boston, he had lived in Medford for the past 73 years and was a graduate of Medford High School. He was married to Edythe A. (Zannoni) for 53 years.
Gene was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 349th Night Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Corps from 1942 to l946.
Upon returning from military service, he owned and operated Gene's Barber Shop in Tufts Square for a number of years.
He later entered state service as an examiner for the Division of Insurance, auditing local employee retirement systems. He joined the Public Employees Retirement Administration (PERA) when that agency was established to oversee the state's systems. He retired from PERA in l989.
In addition to his wife, Gene is also survived by his brother, Alphonse R. Frezza of Medford. Their sister, Palmina A. Frezza of Medford, died in 2005. Gene was the son of the late Claudino D. and Leonobia P. Frezza of Medford.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, MEDFORD, Friday at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
