Obituary

WORCESTER-Helen A. (Watterson) McGuinness, 88, of Worcester, died Sunday, April 8th, in Dodge Park Rest Home. Her husband of 51 years, Richard J. “Mickey” McGuinness, died in 1989. She was born March 29, 1919, in Worcester, to John and Ellen (Carney) Watterson and lived here all her life. She is survived by her 3 sons, Richard McGuinness and his wife Donna of Atlanta, GA, Michael McGuinness of Fitzwilliam, NH, and Patrick McGuinness and his wife Linda of Worcester; 4 grandsons, Christopher, Scott, Timothy and Justin McGuinness; 4 granddaughters, Debra Motyka, Maureen Armey, Kelley Finacom and Nicole Matthias; 12 great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; and a close friend, Sr. Frances Barry. A beloved granddaughter, Pamela McGuinness, a sister, Bertha Reed, and 3 brothers, Andrew and Francis Blette and Edward Watterson, predeceased her.

She was a very religious woman, devoted to the Catholic Church. She was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots teams; she loved a good party and family gatherings and she adored being around her great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. Helen was a dedicated nurse for many years at the former Memorial Hospital. Prior to returning to school to earn her nursing degree from City Hospital, she worked at various area companies. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the caring staff of Dodge Park Rest Home and the UMass Memorial Hospice team.

The funeral is Wednesday, April 11th, from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour is from 8:30 until 9:30 A.M. Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the UMass Memorial Foundation, Hospice Program, P.O.
