Obituary

Leonora “Lee” Voigt Lewis, long active in local and state politics and town activities died peacefully Sunday evening a day short of her 85th birthday.

Born Leonora Augusta Voigt in New Haven, Mrs. Lewis was Groton's Democratic Registrar of Voters for 13 years prior to her retirement in 2002. She was a lifelong member of the Democratic party and a mainstay of the local party. A licensed practical nurse, Mrs. Lewis stayed in touch with the profession as a member of the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her children, Mary, of Marblehead Massachusetts, James of Ledyard, Frank of Groton and Thomas of Noank, by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and by her sister, Lucy Katie Voigt Bodie of New Haven. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Lewis, and by her brothers Frank Louis Voigt and Leonard Mendal Voigt.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 4-6pm. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday at 11am at the funeral home. The Rev. Paul Hayes, Pastor of the Noank Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Noank Valley Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Noank Baptist Church.
