James J. Mangan, Sr., “Jim” of Medford, died suddenly on Saturday morning at Winchester Hospital. He was 73.
Jim was born at home in Somerville, the son of the late Francis and the late Teresa (Walsh) Mangan. Jim graduated Somerville High and served in the Army at the Artic Test Center, Fort Churchill. From the age of 18, Jim worked 52 years in customer service, with Thomson and Thomson, a trademark research firm. Jim was always active with church. At Saint Catherine’s in Somerville Jim was a ChiRho advisor and received the Eagle of the Cross award. At Saint Raphael in West Medford, Jim was a lector, CCD teacher and member of the singing grand pops. Jim was active with Medford’s Mystic Players, the Retired Men’s Club of Arlington and loved to dance, especially with his wife of nearly 40 years, Mary Jo.
Jim was the beloved husband of Mary Jo (Brown) Mangan. He was a devoted father to Jim, Jr. and his wife Karen of Waltham, Andrew and his wife Brenda of Wilmington, Kieth and his wife Christine of Tewksbury, Mary Kate Murphy and her husband Sean of Medford and Sean and his wife Candice of Medford. He was a loving grandfather to Kelsey, Erin, Cullen and Carsten. He was the brother of the late Jack and Richie Mangan.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday from 4 - 9 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. Funeral Wednesday at 11 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated at St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 12 Noon. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
