Obituary

Harold B. Grinnell, Jr., 84, of 18 Beech Street, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Milford Regional Medical Center, where he had been a patient since last Sunday. He was the husband of the late Marguerite A. (Horgan) Grinnell who died in 2006.

Born in Somerville, November 9, 1922, a son of the late Harold B. Grinnell, Sr. and Mary M. (Zeni) Grinnell, he lived in Franklin since 1969.

He was raised and educated in Somerville, and was a 1941 graduate of Somerville High School.

Until his retirement in the late 1980’s, he worked for more than 40 years as a mechanic and machine repairman for the National Cash Register Company.

During WWII he served in the US Navy. He attained the rank of Machinist Mate 2nd Class, and was stationed in the South Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 10 stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Navy Commendation Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in October, 1945.

He was a member of the Franklin Senior Citizens, the American Association of Retired Persons, and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

He is survived by 2 sons: Stephen H. Grinnell of Franklin, David Grinnell of Uxbridge, 3 daughters: Joyce Wescott of North Carolina, Laurel Long of Phoenix, Arizona, and Marjorie Graziano of Washington DC, a brother Robert Grinnell of Las Vegas, Nevada, and 7 grandchildren.

He was also the brother of the late William Grinnell, and Ethel, Doris and Mildred Grinnell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Tuesday, April 10, at 11:00 AM at the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street (www.franklin-funeral.com). Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
