Obituary

SALEM - Irene M. (Meler) Hojnowski, age 84, of Salem, wife of the late Robert A. Hojnowski, died Tuesday evening, April 3, 2007, in the Salem Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Maryanna (Akatyszewski) Meler. She attended St. John the Baptist Grammar School and was a graduate of Salem High School.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Hojnowski was employed for 20 years at Daniel Low & company in Salem. She was previously employed at the former Heffernan’s Drug Store in Salem. In her retirement years, she worked at the Seven-Eleven Store on North Street, Salem.

A lifelong resident of the city, she was a parishioner of the St. John The Baptist Church and was a member of the Polish Falcon, Nest #188 of Salem.

She is survived by one son, John T. Hojnowski of Salem, one daughter and son-in-law, Maryjane and John Montoni of Gloucester, 4 grandchildren, Robert H. Hojnowski of Peabody, Kimberly Montoni, Shane Montoni and Kayla Montoni, all of Gloucester, 1 sister, Melaine Czupryna of Salem, 1 sister-in-law, Irene Meler of Salem and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen J. Manning, Thaddeus, Meler, Thomas Meler and Stanley Meler.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 11 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, 28 St. Peter St., Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. There are no visiting hours. Committal services are private. Funeral arrangements are by the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
