TEWKSBURY: Richard O. Billings, age 76, a resident of Tewksbury for 48 years, died Thursday, April 5, 2007.
He was the husband of the late Nancy V. (Leland) Billings, who died May 25, 2004.
Born in West Roxbury on May 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Marion and Marrion (Morse) Billings.
Mr. Billings was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School.
In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Billings served during the Korean War with the 810th Motor Vehicle Squadron at Biggs Air Force Base in Texas. Prior to his honorable discharge from active duty, he was awarded several decorations including the Good conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Billings was employed for over 20 years by Mobil Solar Energy, a division of the Mobil Oil Company, until his retirement in 1995.
According to his family, he enjoyed coaching in the Tewksbury Pop Warner Football Program, playing softball for the Tewksbury Elks in the Tewksbury Men’s Softball League, playing tennis and golf, and vacationing with his wife, children and grandchildren in Rockport.
Mr. Billings was a life member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Post # 2070.
He is survived by one daughter, Deborah A. Billings of Tewksbury; two sons, Richard L. Billings and his wife Gail (Schuleter) and Daniel P. Billings all of Marblehead; three grandchildren, Meaghan, Jennifer and Christopher Billings; one brother, Robert B. Billings of San Jose, CA; also many nieces and nephews including Timothy D. Leland.
Mr. Billings was the uncle of the late Matthew B. Leland.
Calling hours Tuesday, April 10th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Wednesday, April 11th, at 10 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., Rte. 38, Wilmington. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Assoc., 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210 are requested.
