Leicester – George K. Sawyer Jr., 76, of Leicester died on Wednesday April 4, in The Meadows of Leicester after an illness.
Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife Marion T. (Hisoire) Sawyer of Leicester; two sons Paul G. Sawyer and his wife Christine of Maine and Michael A. Sawyer of Worcester; two daughters Theresa Gray of Worcester and Suzanne Blouin and her husband Stephen of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Mr. Sawyer is predeceased by a brother William Blackmer and a sister Lucille Allen. He was born in Worcester son of George K. and Florence E. (Blackmer) Sawyer and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was an LPN at many local hospitals and nursing homes before his retirement. Mr. Sawyer was a member of Saint Pius X Church, the Disabled American Veterans and the Korean War Veterans Association. He was the Boy Scouts Scoutmaster of Troop #123 at St. Pius X Church and belonged to the American Legion Post #443 in Cherry Valley.
The funeral will be held on Monday, April 9 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a mass at 10 AM in St. Pius X Church 1154 Main St., Leicester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are on Saturday April 7, from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter 69 Grove Street Worcester, MA 01605 or to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America 505 Eighth Ave., Suite 902 New York, NY 10018.
