... WWII Veteran, City of Boston’s water department; 91
TEWKSBURY - James F. Cashman, age 91, a WWII veteran and former City of Boston
employee, died Wednesday evening, April 4, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Lowell after a long
period of declining health. He was the husband of Mary E. (Curley) Cashman, who died in 1991.
He was born in Boston, on July 17, 1915, a son of the late Thomas F. and Annie (Gallagher)
Cashman. He lived the greater part of his life in Boston, and was employed by the City of
Boston’s Water Department, emergency services. He moved to Tewksbury in 1980, most
recently at Carnation Drive. In his retirement, he worked part time as the Sexton at the
Tewksbury Congregational Church.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper, assigned to fight in France.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Smith of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two step-children, George
Goodrich and Kathleen Raymond both of Ellenton, Fla; two brothers, Robert Cashman of West
Dennis and Fla, Thomas Cashman of West Roxbury and Fla; a sister, Ann Speriaza of Braintree;
23 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Louise Blake; step father of the late John Goodrich, Robert
Goodrich, Mary Martin; and brother of the late William Cashman, John Cashman, and Richard
Cashman.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, with interment at Cape Cod National Cemetery in
Bourne.
