Obituary


Arden O. ”Art” Cleaves died April 3rd,at his home after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Loretta (Cripps) Cleaves and the late Mary (Walters) Cleaves.

Born in Presque Isle, ME, he was the son of the late Robert and Vella (Howes) Cleaves. He attended schools in Presque Isle, ME.

He was a Whitman resident for 39 years and moved to Marlborough 10 years ago.

Art was a boat finisher for Boston Whaler in Rockland, for 35 years before retiring.

He served in the Korean conflict from 1952-1955 as a Corporal, he was a member of the Whitman VFW 697 and the Natick Elks.

Art enjoyed traveling in his motor home, bowling, golfing, and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife Loretta (Cripps) Cleaves of Marlborough, his children,
Jeffery Cleaves of Fl. ,Kathy Bourgoyne of NC ,his step-children of Alan Burke ,Carolyn Winchester both of Marlborough and Janice Bernier of Shrewsbury, his sister Eleanor Nelson of Idaho; also several grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Peter Cleaves and brother of the late Alden Cleaves

His Funeral will be held Saturday April 7th at 5:00 P.M., in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours Saturday April 7th 2-5 P. M. Donations may be made in his name to the UMASS Hospice, 650 Lincoln Street, Worchester, MA. 01605.
