Johnson Lee, Ph.D.

Johnson Lee, Ph.D. (Chinese Name: Lee Tzung-Sun), of Needham passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2007. He was 62.
Dr. Lee was born on April 12, 1944, and raised in Hsinchu, Taiwan. After graduating from Chung Yuan Christian University in Chung-Li, Taiwan, and receiving his Master of Science from National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Dr. Lee taught physics at Tatung University and the Chinese Culture University in Taipei, Taiwan during the early 1970s.
In 1973, Dr. Lee immigrated to the United States to pursue doctoral studies in experimental solid-state physics at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1977, Dr. Lee went on to work as a research physicist and scientist at GTE Laboratories in Waltham for 23 years. In recent years, Dr. Lee returned to Chung Yuan Christian University to teach physics as a visiting professor. Dr. Lee also recently received an appointment as a Research Professor of Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
During his career, Dr. Lee authored over 80 papers on theoretical applied physics, most of which were published in prominent, refereed journals.
Family, friends, colleagues, and former students fondly remember Dr. Lee’s kindness, sense of humor, and love for teaching and scholarly scientific inquiry.
A resident of Needham since 1978, Dr. Lee leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 35 years, Mei-Feng Chen Lee; his children, Clark Johnson Lee of Laurel, Maryland, and Nicholas Patrick Lee of Needham; his brothers, Lee Tzung-Lian and Lee Tzung-Yuan and their wives, all of Taipei; a sister, Su Lee Chiu-Yueh, of Xindian, Taiwan; numerous in-laws residing in California and Indiana; and numerous members of his extended family and friends, including his dearest brotherly friend Hung-Jen Yang of Bloomington, Illinois.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave., Needham, MA 02492.
Burial will be at Needham Cemetery on Saturday, April 7 at 1:00 PM, with a gathering at the Eaton Funeral Home beginning at noon.
