Marie Jeanne (Lafortune) Lagasse, age 95, died Monday, April 2 at a local healthcare facility in Lowell after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife for 52 years of the late Edmond J. Lagasse who died in 1989.
She was born in Lowell on August 21, 1911, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marianne (Geoffroy) Lafortune. Mrs. Lagasse was a lifelong resident of Lowell and was a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Parish and more recently with St. Rita Parish.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Hub Hosiery in Lowell for seven years. Mrs. Lagasse also received her LPN from Holy Ghost Hospital in Cambridge.
Her hobbies included playing dominos, cards, and bingo. She also enjoyed tatting, knitting and reading.
She is survived by three daughters and three sons-in-law, Jeannine and Gilbert Turgeon of Litchfield, NH, Lorraine and Roger Blanchette of Pelham, NH, and Claire and Robert Belanger of Tyngsboro; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Arthur and Elaine Lagasse of Dracut and Armand and Sylvia Lagasse of Hudson, NH; 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was the sister of the late Yvonne Lagasse, Albert Lafortune, Regina Rondeau, Henry Lafortune and Theresa Sousa.
Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on Mon., April 9th, from 4 to 8pm. Funeral Tuesday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 o'clock at St. Rita Church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the D'Youville Foundation, 981 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854.
